Drug Uses
Ortho Tri-Cyclen contains a mixture of estrogen and progestin hormones, which is used for preventing unwanted pregnancy. It may also be used for regulation of the menstrual cycle, for curing symptoms of menopause, or treatment of other conditions as recommended by your physician.
How Taken
Ortho Tri-Cyclen comes in pills to take orally. Then take one tablet daily, the time interval between pills shouldn't be more than 24 hours. It is advised to take the tablets at the same time every day (e.g. before bed, with a meal, or first thing in the morning). If you take your drugs at night, this can reduce nausea or headache that you may experience while taking birth control tablets. Avoid missing drugs or starting the pack late. The more pills are missed the higher the risk to get pregnant. You may have spotting, light bleeding or you may feel sick to your stomach during the first 13 packs of pills. You shouldn't stop taking pills if you feel sick. This side effect regulary goes away. If it stays for long, you should visit your doctor. If you find it difficult remembering to take the drug at the right time, you should discuss with your doctor the use of another birth control method.
Additional Information
Before Ortho Tri-Cyclen is prescribed, you will have to be examined by your physician. Tell your doctor your medical history. You should be re-examined at least once a year. Do not miss appointments with your healthcare provider, as it is best to determine any side effects at an early stage. This drug has to be used only for the purpose it has been prescribed. Ortho Tri-Cyclen does not protect from HIV and other venereal diseases.
