Laurence Castle is a scientist at the Food and Environment Research Agency (formerly called Central Science Laboratory) in York, UK. He has considerable experience working in national and international risk assessment and standardisation groups. He currently is a member of the EFSA CEF Panel (Contact materials Enzymes and Flavourings). Laurence has also (co)-authored over 150 research papers and book chapters dealing with chemical analysis of food, food safety, chemical migration, food additives and processing contaminants, reaction mechanisms and fate, assessment of exposure, amongst other topics.
Richard Fussell is a scientist at the Food and Environment Research Agency (formerly called Central Science Laboratory) in York, UK. Richard has served as a technical expert on various UK and International pesticide groups, and on EU projects in Third Countries. He has previously served as member of the UK Pesticides Residues Committee Analytical Sub-Group involved with the delivery of results for the UK and EU coordinated pesticide programmes. Richard is currently involved in the development of new methodologies in support of monitoring programmes for pesticides and veterinary medicines. He has (co)-authored over 40 research papers, book chapters and technical notes dealing with pesticides and veterinary medicines.
Dr. Ólafur Sveinn Oddgeirsson is an Icelandic veterinary expert, with over twenty five years experience in animal and veterinary public health both within the EU and in Third Countries. Dr. Oddgeirsson’s previous roles include being a Senior Officer of the European Free Trade Association’s (EFTA) Surveillance Authority, responsible for the supervision of the uniform application and implementation of a number of EU Directives in the EFTA States, e.g. concerning fish, fresh meat, meat products, milk, residues in food, fresh poultry meat and animal health issues. Prior to this he was a director of the Institute of Dairy Research in Iceland. During the last 10 years Dr. Oddgeirsson has gained extensive experience through his work as an international consultant, e.g. assisting Third Countries in complying with the rules and regulations concerning export of food of animal origin to the European Union. He has in this work carried out numerous assessments of the official supervision of the food industry in Third Countries, including legal framework, enforcement agencies, laboratories and checks on imports. He has also delivered training on food safety related issues around the world and assisted agri-food businesses to upgrade to EU standards.
